Title: Movies Worth The Time
Post by: butt on December 13, 2010, 10:21:54 PM
Got a movie you think is worthy of a watch? Post it here.

Full movies only. No Utube blurbs. Post link/pic of movie, and why you think its a winner.   Thanks

EDIT:  Please be thoughtful in your replies. Dont post garbage movies that stunk 10 years ago, that are currently on rotation @ TNT and TBS movie nights.

Looking for "off the beaten path" stuff here... Turn someone onto something they may have never seen before. John Travolta and Christian Slater in "Broken Arrow" does NOT belong in this thread! geeze... kids.  ::)

I'll start things off.

As with most things new, I am about 2 years behind the blu ray craze. But the gf went shopping (w/ out my supervision) and came home w/ a b ray player that is able to stream netflix. Got it hooked up, and must say, its a cool deal.

Heres the first of what will be many solid recommendations from yours truly  :D

The Mrs. & I have been doing the Netflix thing for a few years now. Have seen some good ones and some bad ones. Most recently, we watched "Robin Hood" w/ Russell Crowe. I was worth a watch, but not the best. Personally, I liked the Kevin Costner version better, for it's entertainment value.

One of the better ones we've seen, lately, is "From Paris With Love" w/ John Travolta.

It wasn't what I was expecting and turned out to be a pretty good action flick. If you liked "taken" w/ Liam Neeson, you will like this movie.

^ Usual Suspects and Shooter are good. Suicide Kings is good if you like Walken (and Dennis Leary). Snatch and 'Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels' are two of my favorite 'guy' movies of all time (Jason Statham before anyone knew who he was, and you'll recognize some actors from Band of Brothers and Rock Star), if you can get past the English accent (sorry Eric! - I actually had to watch some parts with subtitles, but Cockney rhyming slang is hysterical). Inception is legendary. Although a kids' movie, How to Train Your Dragon is actually pretty awesome (the main viking voice is Leonidas from 300 and the main character was the funny guy from Tropic Thunder). Tropic Thunder is hysterical too, I'm sure you've seen it. Okay, so I'm like 5 above the quota, but all good!

^ Hey, don't be knockin' Transformers, it's my 4-year old's favorite movie ever!
Yes I know I'm a bad dad for letting my 4 year old watch a PG-13 movie. But it's Transformers. He gets a pass.

Had the dvd on the coffee table for going on three months now. Figured I'd better watch it and get it back to netflix.

Must say i enjoyed the hell out of it. Its a trippy/weird/semi-western (nice buzz does not hurt). Ya got to give it a bit to warm up, but its worth the time (hince, it fits into my thread)

An added bonus is Neil Young did the sound track. Was very nice for a western.

PS... I deleted a few of the videos posted by those that did not follow directions. (*cough* eric)  :P

Those w/ a love for music need to watch out for this film. Is a documentary about a cat who cut a few albums in the early 70's. While the music flopped state side, unknown to him, his music made it abroad, and was a huge success. After the dream of a life in music failed him, he lived a hard life in basic construction, never knowing the following he had abroad.  Eventually,  through a social media interfacing by his daughter,  he is finally recognized and celebrated by his many many fans.

I've not seen it yet, but will make a point to catch it this weekend.

We've not gone out to see a movie in a long time, but I've got a great title to share.

We went to see a spooky movie last night, and I must admit it was pretty scary. Dont wait till this goes to dvd, or I bet you'll be disapointed (or at least it wont have the same punch)

Its not a gory "slasher" blood bath... Its a seldom seen, actual scary movie.

Think - The Amityville Horror,  meets The Exorcist.  Its worth the price of admission. But again, see it in a theater. Dont wait on the dvd
