I think what worked for me (on Win7 x64) was right-clicking the link for BF2142 and then clicking the checkbox for 'Run as admin'
It always asks me if I am sure if I want to run this file when I open it, but it does work.

making sure pb was up to date is what worked for me. There may have been something else w/ the first time, but Eric worked me thru it. He's the expert.

The .bat file is something i have never needed to do.

I would make sure PB is installed, see the PB section in the post help below.

I have noticed from cc that U do get kicked a lot for high ping. Make sure U are not using up Ur band width with something running on Ur PC.

If U have an anti-virus on Ur PC remove it, see if that helps.

After u first load the game and press the join button - press the ` key ( next left to the 1 key.)
see what it says.

I don't think you have to remour antivirus, just ensure that it is allowing PB access to the internet. Same thing w/ your windows 7 firewall settings.

Try turning off the windows firewall (temporarily as a test), then right-click the desktop icon you have for BF2142, and select Properties. Click the Compatibility tab, and then tick the checkbox under 'Run this program as an administrator'. OK your way out.
After you make the change, double click that icon, you should get a prompt something like 'Are you sure you wish to run this program...blahblahblah'
Click yes and let me know if you have the same issues.

ok...here i thought it worked...played for a good 2 hours and sat idle most of the morning with no issues...when i join it says that punkbuster was started and installed correctly....now i got off the game and let my kid go on for awhile and when i started the game it was good for about 30 minutes...now im back to square one......one more thing....punkbuster b.exe keeps getting deleted out of syswow64 folder and it dissapears from my services tab too......maybe that will help.....

Remove PB.

This is from our PB help.

Do it step by step all of it.

1. Make sure that you either disable your firewall (probably not a good idea) or allow PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe access to do things (McAfee has been known to automatically add these services to the block list).
2. Download pbsvc.exe (http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe (http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe)), which is a utility to uninstall and reinstall PunkBuster.
3. Open pbsvc.exe and select Un-Install/Remove PunkBuster Service.
4. Open pbsvc.exe again and this time select Install/Re-Install PunkBuster Service.
5. After installing, it will test your services. Make sure you get a "Test completed successfully without error." message. If not, then copy and paste the results of the test here.
6. Now download PBSETUP (http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php (http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php)), which is a utility to update PunkBuster to the latest version. For Windows:pbsetup.exe (http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/windows/pbsetup.exe (http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/windows/pbsetup.exe))
7. Open pbsetup.exe. It will probably have to check for updates, allow it to do that.
8. Click the "Add a Game" button at the top.
9. Select your game (in this case Battlefield 2142) and make sure that the directory is correct.
10. Click the "Check for Updates" button at the top.

Now restart Comp.
Go to Windows Firewall/allow programes through/exceptions and make sure both PBa and PBb are on the list and allowed through.
If not tick the box and restart comp.

Two things: temporarily disable windows firewall, and temporarily stop your antivirus program.
Do you get the same behavior?

PB was giving me a hard time this morning. Uninstall/ reinstall of PB fixed it. A pain, but it worked.

Has anyone asked him about setting his PC into DMZ mode via the router?

PS.
And why is this in the "members only" section, and not the PC upgrade and repair section?  "If" he finds a solution, it may save the next person w/ pb issues some of the same aggrivation.

yes...i turn off firewall and shut down anti virus program.......i also set my router to dmz mode.....whats strange is i have to uninstall punkbuster...delete reg keys ...and then reinstall eveything all over again then i will get kicked once and then usually if i jump right back on it seems ok...until i switch servers...or if im sittin idle the minute a round starts i get booted.....im goin nuckin futs....lol...it just sucks that i have to screw with this for an hour before i can play......

That's weird. DMZ should not matter, that's usually if you want to host a server. If your windows firewall is off, definitely turn off DMZ.
I had some issues in the past with my profile. If you goto My Documents, you should see a folder called BF2142 or something like that.
Rename it to BF2142.old or something like that. Then open the game again (it will drop to default settings). Let me know if you still get the same behavior.
And your shortcuts to BF2142 on your desktop (or wherever you have them) are still running in administrator mode right? Without admin mode the machine won't properly start PunkbusterA and B.
Also, is your UAC enabled? Goto Control Panel ~> User Accounts ~> Change User Account Control Settings ~> TEMPORARILY chage to 'Never Notify' for this test. I actually have mine off but I limit my (pr0n) browsing. I think you have to reboot after the UAC change.

I can relate to your frustrations w/ 2142 load up issues. It sounds like you've exhausted about all the tips and tricks offered to you - that have worked for others in the past.

I remember that you own BC2, see if you can connect to our new server w/out being heart beat kicked.

Then, submit a support ticket with EA - and explain each and every step you've taken to try and fix the ongoing problem. When EA fails to fix the problem, you can at least feel a little bit better knowing you can still participate in helping your clanmates with something other than 2142, lol  :P We do have 2 other servers/games you know? I know you own at least one of them.  We still have an idle program that can include something other than 2142 - if your game wont work atm.

Lets not loose sight of our other responsibilites (monthly donations - idle program - recruiting - ect...) over this one problem. Submit a support ticket w/ EA, then find other ways to help out, in the mean time.

ok guys...sorry its been so long since ive posted here to let you know how its going.....so anyways i did everything i could think of ....still was getting noowhere....went back to beginning and started all over...new install of 2142...deleted reg keys...everything.....

the solution is this...uninstall punkbuster.....delete reg keys....etc...then restart....

then uninstall microsoft network client 4
something in the new update for network 4 is screwy....

then restart machine again and reinstall punkbuster

its important to restart the comp ...i dont know why..........lost on tht one, but i know if you dont it doesnt work right...lol
