Title: Computer_Build
Post by: HokieLoki on March 02, 2011, 04:01:36 PM
In class and bored.  Built a computer, starting from the CPU and working up...
I am not rich and did NOT build this thinking I would somehow ever afford it.  Just musing to myself.

Post comments and additions if you want!  They are very encouraged!

Grand Total:  $5894.92

EDIT1:  I have switched the PSU for a modular one.  Thanks Adam, lol.
EDIT2:  I replaced the ATI Radeon HD 5970 GPU with the NVidia GTX 590. I think it's a better card. I also abandoned my ASRock Mobo as that is just my personal preference, but a true better Mobo would be the one I selected that is in the spot now.  Almost at $4k now, lol.

EDIT3:  Revamped everything pretty much.  This most was last editted back in March so it was due for an update.  This would be awesome...Lol.
The grand total moved from $3901.92 in March to what you see up there.  Whoops!   ;D ;D ;D

Edit 4:  More changes.  Added a better CPU and some better cooling including VGA cooling.  Also made other changes.  One day when I win the lottery, everyone is gonna get one of these builds.

Saw this on Digg a second ago.  It's the CPU I have for my dream build.

If I were 20-something and had not seen my gf for x number of months, I wouldnt have time for PC build what-if-ing.

I'd be hittin it every hour on the hour. Stopping only for food, shower, and minimal sleep.   8)

Loki is in engineering. He gets a pass. And regarding every hour on the hour, what do you do the remaining 59 minutes of the hour? :P

Lol, so I wasn't clear when I stated my absence for Spring Break.  I am indeed on Spring Break right now, but I am seeing my girlfriend starting tonight.  In fact, as I write this, I am sitting at the gate waiting for my flight to board.  I arrive at 11:20 P.M. and I will be there until Saturday morning.

From last Thursday night until now, I have been in Central, SC, staying at my brother's apartment and visiting with he and his wife.

Don't worry, you guys.  I'm gonna do some work in the next few days.  Your concern though is touching.

I haven't seen my girlfriend since Halloween, but to address the issue at hand, if I had to decide between waiting four more months and getting that computer build, or seeing her tonight....I'd have to go with the computer.  I could wait another four months.

Good thing she doesn't get on here, lol.  Time to board!  To Florida I go!

You guys have known me long enough, so it's clearly not the personality. And judging by how consistently I donate, I'm clearly broke.
My secret is, every time my wife starts remembering where she is or who I am, I give her

And everything is all better again.
