Title: Pellet Grill
Post by: butt on July 12, 2019, 05:23:48 AM
As with most things, I am slow to change.

This includes smokers. There is that caveman in me that loves playing with fire. So, the thought of a pellet grill was met w/ some sort of soyboy gimmick trickery based skepticism from me.

Well, while at the inlaws for the weekend, I was duly impressed.

Now the search is on for my next grill. The fil was working w/ a treager grill from several years back.
From my initial research, things have changed at traeger (patent expired) and there are other less expensive options available to Joe sixpack.

This thread will discuss options and features including horizontal vs vertical smokers, price, and warranty.

For me, this wont be a rush purchase. I am gtg on grilling this summer. But looking at picking up one this winter --> Black Friday.

A few quick tidbits from my reading.

Pit Boss grills have a 5 year vs Traegers 3 year warranty
Pit Boss has a open flame option the Treager does not have...

I am just getting started, but might make for some food for thought. rock me.

While at Wallyworld yesterday I swung by the grills and had a peek at some of the Pit Boss grills.

I looked at the 'Pit Boss' Austin model on display.
Couple thoughts. Way bigger horizontally than my needs would require.
Cooking area vertically, is not very high...
While beef would be main thought behind a smoker, I'd prefer to have a cooking area w/ room for "beer can chicken"

Next time Ed is on TS I will ask him to drop by the Forum.

He is a wee bit of a grill nut...………..
