Before anything, I come in peace. She does come on me as well from time to time.
I wanted to join the forum's bf3 server. I saw a beautiful 45 ms ping so clicked join, then I stumbled upon this:
Yes, i live in El Salvador.
Is this really necessary? I mean, I see your forum and see traffic from all over the world. Maybe a mistake or something. Or a policy here I may not be aware of?
been surfing here like a visitor a while ago, and seeing this message really broke my heart </3
anyway just wanted to ask about this. cya guys, long live and prosper.

Hello.
I appreciate you taking the time to ask, and will explain as best as I can.
Unlike all other Battlefield titles, EA/DICE has as of yet, not allowed the makers of Procon (and all other game server remote control programs) to show player ping from Rcon. Generally we can set a high ping value within the server control program. Once a players ping hits this pre-set value, the player is auto kicked from the server. Its been this way since as long as I can remember for all other games we have hosted. Be it an EA or Activision title.
For reasons I have yet to get any explination on from M. Kalms of DICE, this expectational utility is currently missing from server control. Untill a time when I am able to add this function, I am only able to restrict access by country. If this sounds like an absurd way of admining servers, yes I'd totally agree. Welcome to our world. DICE has really dropped the ball in several ways, in a game that was supposedly to be a true sequal to BF2, and a "PC first" title.
We rent/pay for, our servers for our entertainment. Not to waste tons of time banning players one at a time who have substandard internet connections and high pings. A high enough percentage of players from the country you live in have consistantly high ping to our NY server. While you may have a great connection speed, enough players from your country do not. I do not know what the root cause of this is, but could venture a few guesses. Distance, connection speeds, hubs in countries between NY and central/south america. Reguardless of cause, when a admin is ingame, we have better things to worry about than each joining players ping. And even worse - when a clan admin is not ingame to police such things, a player w/ a crazy ping/conncetion will lag out the server - screwing up the gaming experience of all of the other players. To use your Star Trek verbage
"The needs of the many outweigh that of the few"
in this instance.
While this is admitedly is a far from perfect solution, I blame DICE. As soon as DICE stops wasting time nerfing/buffing guns, and actually addresses the things that this game truly needs and fixes, I will gladly remove the country limiter and go back to the traditional high ping kick feature PC gamers have come to expect.
Fortunatly, untill such a time, there are thousands of other servers available in this game mode available for your entertainment. While not the answer you were looking for, I hope this helps your understanding of the situation.

Wow. I actually expected something like "taco burrito mexican ass go buy better internet" or something like that, i really appreciate it.
I really don't know what causes the high ping among other ppl here, because the best ping is always that of US based servers. 75< most of the time, most of the games, l4d2, css, mw3, bf3, you name it. and i only have 1mbit connection, around 120kbps, so I highly doubt it is that... Hell! I played Ghost Recon with a 96kbps about 7 years ago on uk servers!
On the other hand, the shitty modems the isp distributes could be one of the culprits, and shared internet connection too. My brother always get his torrent blocked when i am online, he still doesnt know why.
I came to ask because at first sight, the thing just looked like a digital racism issue which happens constantly on youtube for example: "This content is not available in your country" and some other sites, maybe even app stores for nokia, iphone or whatever device you name. I bet some ppl still believe we go around in loincloths, shoot bows and arrows and make human sacrifices while talking in Mayaquiché to Quetzalcoatl. Some dont even believe that a small population speaks their language.
Anyway, flaws are always there. And the server side is the back-end which few players get to know. Thanks for taking the time to explain and of course I agree with that. You rule and i can see you keep this place running like a swiss watch.
thank you
