Raspberry Pi

butt:
Think this winter when stuck inside, I am going to build a "Raspberry Pi" mini computer...

I've read on a forum I frequent many posts about Raspberry Pi, but didnt quite understand exactly what they were taking about. Basically, its a small "mini computer", that can serve different functions. For me, I am going to make a retro gaming console (if I can find the right games I am looking for. When I watch youtube videos, its clear my understanding of "retro", isnt the same as the jackwagons posting up videos.

I am looking for Atari 2600 library.
And arcade classics like:

• Defender
• Joust
• Frogger
• Gallaga
• Donkey Kong
• Zaxxon
• Spy Hunter (1983 version)
• 1942
• Xevious
• Dig Dug
• Dragon's Lair
• Phoenix

Here is a video that gives an overview of what Raspberry Pi is about.
Watch the first 13 minutes or so, for the main info. It gets wonky after that.

The more I study the Raspberry Pi, the more I am impressed.

I really want to get the old retro games, and hook the Pi up to one of the TV's for some "memory lane" fun.
I had many of the games listed above on my iPhone, but after ios 11, the games were not updated by the app makers and I was SOL.

Here is another video providing more detail on the set up side of the software. I would be wary personally downloading games from sites like he mentions... I'd be really upset getting malware, or worse, something that might flag a false positive via PB or the like...

But again, this isnt something I am going to get right away. Probably Jan or Feb if I were guessing.

But yeah, the Raspberry Pi can do many things. Just starting to learn about it  :D

Here is another how to which I thought was pretty good in laying out both set up and navigation.

Eric:
Good luck with this project Butt, looks interesting.

Let me know how it goes.

Have FUN

You're effectively installing Linux on the pie, and then the software in Linux. This will also work if you have an older laptop or the like, and want to play on that in lieu of the Pi, but the Pi is convenient as it has HDMI out and can run on your TV. If you've never used Linux, virtually all websites and many apps run on Linux. It can be finicky tho, prepare for a little bit of a learning curve, you'll get more comfortable reading system logs. Windows is more popular for home and employee-facing corporate use.

BTW having a tough time finding NJ compliant AR devices (need fixed stock and 10 round mags), so I think my choices are to either build one, or pay twice the going rate to get one at a store. Can't wait to get the hell our of Jersey, but I'm stuck here for another 9 years til my daughter graduates :(

Riddle me this...

What if...
I had an old hard drive
Wiped it, installed Linux (I have zero experience w/ Linux)

Then installed these old games on that hard drive on a third drive in my PC?
