I think what worked for me (on Win7 x64) was right-clicking the link for BF2142 and then clicking the checkbox for 'Run as admin'
It always asks me if I am sure if I want to run this file when I open it, but it does work.

The .bat file is something i have never needed to do.

I would make sure PB is installed, see the PB section in the post help below.

I have noticed from cc that U do get kicked a lot for high ping. Make sure U are not using up Ur band width with something running on Ur PC.

If U have an anti-virus on Ur PC remove it, see if that helps.

After u first load the game and press the join button - press the ` key ( next left to the 1 key.)
see what it says.

I don't think you have to remour antivirus, just ensure that it is allowing PB access to the internet. Same thing w/ your windows 7 firewall settings.

Try turning off the windows firewall (temporarily as a test), then right-click the desktop icon you have for BF2142, and select Properties. Click the Compatibility tab, and then tick the checkbox under 'Run this program as an administrator'. OK your way out.
After you make the change, double click that icon, you should get a prompt something like 'Are you sure you wish to run this program...blahblahblah'
Click yes and let me know if you have the same issues.

ok...here i thought it worked...played for a good 2 hours and sat idle most of the morning with no issues...when i join it says that punkbuster was started and installed correctly....now i got off the game and let my kid go on for awhile and when i started the game it was good for about 30 minutes...now im back to square one......one more thing....punkbuster b.exe keeps getting deleted out of syswow64 folder and it dissapears from my services tab too......maybe that will help.....

Remove PB.

This is from our PB help.

Do it step by step all of it.

1. Make sure that you either disable your firewall (probably not a good idea) or allow PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe access to do things (McAfee has been known to automatically add these services to the block list).
2. Download pbsvc.exe (http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe), which is a utility to uninstall and reinstall PunkBuster.
3. Open pbsvc.exe and select Un-Install/Remove PunkBuster Service.
4. Open pbsvc.exe again and this time select Install/Re-Install PunkBuster Service.
5. After installing, it will test your services. Make sure you get a "Test completed successfully without error." message. If not, then copy and paste the results of the test here.
6. Now download PBSETUP (http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php), which is a utility to update PunkBuster to the latest version. For Windows:pbsetup.exe (http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/windows/pbsetup.exe)
7. Open pbsetup.exe. It will probably have to check for updates, allow it to do that.
8. Click the "Add a Game" button at the top.
9. Select your game (in this case Battlefield 2142) and make sure that the directory is correct.
10. Click the "Check for Updates" button at the top.

Now restart Comp.
Go to Windows Firewall/allow programes through/exceptions and make sure both PBa and PBb are on the list and allowed through.
If not tick the box and restart comp.

Two things: temporarily disable windows firewall, and temporarily stop your antivirus program.
Do you get the same behavior?

PB was giving me a hard time this morning. Uninstall/ reinstall of PB fixed it. A pain, but it worked.

Has anyone asked him about setting his PC into DMZ mode via the router?

PS.
And why is this in the "members only" section, and not the PC upgrade and repair section?  "If" he finds a solution, it may save the next person w/ pb issues some of the same aggrivation.
