CPU Temps

Hey All. Quick question: I've been watching the temps on my CPU with speed fan lately and it's been idling at around 49C. Isn't this a little hot? Under load (bf, starcraft etc) it doesn't go much higher than 52C but i still feel like it should be cooler while idling.
It's an AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition running at 3GHz

Is something pinning one of your cores at idle? Is your pr0n torrentloader running in the BG?
That's high for idle. My old school Q9550 runs at 29C idle, 52C at load.
The 940 is supposedly a lower temp CPU no?
Could very well be errant reading by sensor. If you boot to your BIOS, usually there is a hardware monitor in there (dig around the settings). Does it report the same temp?
Speefan sometimes assumes settings.

Checked in BIOS. Gave me a temp of 50-51C. Set it to buzz if it hits above 60C. Buzzed twice during boot and then sat at 46-48 once everything was on (as reported by speedfan). Could the sensor be bad? If so, is there anyway to recalibrate it? Or should i be looking into replacing my stock CPU cooler......

If you get no BSODs and your system is stable, I wouldn't mess with it. If you're getting artifacts and slowdowns thats different, but I think you likely have a bad (or hyperactive) sensor). The fact that it goes from idle to full load with a net difference of 4C makes me thing something is awry with sensor. If it was your heatsink, you would see a much higher load value.

Alright. I'll keep an eye on it. It's just obnoxious because the bad reading in keeping my CPU fan on constantly.

EDIT: would a BIOS update fix the problem?
